he Baptism in the Spirit's effectiveness in reactivating baptism consists in this: finally man contributes his part -- namely, he makes a choice of faith, prepared in repentance, that allows the that allows the work of God to set itself free and to emanate all its strength. It is as if the plug is pulled and the light is switched on. The gift of God is finally "untied" and the Spirit is allowed to flow like a ftragrance in the Christian life.

During the night between Friday and Saturday, in the early morning hours of 10 June 2017, the Lord called back to Him a great man, Father Peter Hocken. He died at the age of almost 85. He was a servant of God, a friend, a priest who loyally served the Body of Christ until his last breath, all the world round. The Lord gave him an extraordinary intellect and wisdom, together with the experience of baptism in the Holy Spirit. He also received from God the talent and ability to provide specific and comprehensible theological explanations and descriptions of spiritual experiences that are taking place within the Church, notably after the Second Vatican Council.

"I have a dream," he began, "that one day on the red hills of Georgia, sons of former slaves and sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. "I have a dream my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

We all know, based on our personal experience, that the cooperation with most intelligent people is not often easy. These people usually do not establish friendship easily. It is interesting also that university graduates with an honour degree usually do not fit in to the working environment in the best way and that their high intellect is of a little help in overcoming personal or marriage crises.

The aim of the “Jesus Heals” prayer gatherings is experiencing the fact that God is Love. He is Love that wants to give itself to other people. God wants to show us His mercy even through healing, signs, wonders, and miracles.

Father Peter Hocken was a worldwide renowned specialist in the historical elaboration and description of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and Pentecostal movement – all facts that occurred in the previous century. In his books he highlights the baptism in the Holy Spirit and its significance for the whole Church. One of his most popular books is “The Strategy of the Spirit?”

He spent the last 15 years of his life in Hainburg, Austria, in a community house together with Sister Mary Paul, where he welcomed many incoming pilgrims, especially of young age. He sensed that the Holy Spirit was calling him for life at the frontier between Western and Eastern Europe, because he believed that God has a great plan for Eastern Europe. For long years he provided spiritual assistance to many communities and individuals from Slovakia and other parts of the continent, incl. our Good Shepherd Community.

Father Peter Hocken was an intellectual man who received from God the gift of spiritual fatherhood. He had about 100 spiritual sons and daughters in the entire world (Marana-tha family) – and they all loved him as though he was their real father.

He consecrated his whole life to efforts of reconciliation among Christians, and also between Christians and Jews. That’s why he played an active role in the TJCII movement as well.

The Holy Father, Francis, invited him to the annual worldwide Pentecost meeting in Rome (31 May – 4 June 2017) and encouraged him to preach before the Church and before the crowd about reconciliation among Christians. He did it with immense pleasure.

He came back from the Pentecost meeting with great enthusiasm, because he was a witness of a historical and prophetic event that happened on Saturday, 3 June 2017, in the ancient Roman stadium, Circus Maximus. Right in that place Pope Francis quoted John 17, 21“May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me”.  He qouted  Jeses cobdutoin for unity and recociliation, so tahat the world may believe good news of the Gospel.

Before prominent Protestant pastors people prayed for the forgiveness of sins perpetrated by the Catholics against the brothers and sisters from other denominations and vice versa.

Protestant pastors blessed Pope Francis and the Catholics.

Then, Patti Mansfield, one of the main representatives of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal took the floor and before tens of thousands of pilgrims she announced that she received a word from God:

"Lift up your eyes and see, that the fields are white for harvest. And if you would obey me and if you would obey the prompting of my Spirit, you will yet see infinitely more that you can ask or imagine. You will yet see the power of my Spirit to astound upon the human race. I tell you, the fields are white for harvest, But I need your obedience, I need your ductility, I need you faith and you will yet see marvels that will astound you, infinitely more that you can ask or imagine, for the glory of My name."

Back from Rome, Father Peter was full of joy and enthusiasm, because he had been able to take part in this very significant event for the whole Church and the entire world.

In his efforts of reconciliation in the Body of Christ, Father Peter Hocken experienced something like Moses, who had a chance to see the Promised Land from the top of a hill. Like Moses, even Father Peter Hocken died on the top of the hill, on Saturday (Sabbath) – one week after the fulfilment of his lifelong mission of reconciliation and unity within the Church.

Funeral of Father Hocken will be on 27 of June 2017 at 10:30 in Hainburg.
