He died at the age of almost 85. He was a servant of God, a friend, a priest who loyally served the Body of Christ until his last breath, all the world round. The Lord gave him an extraordinary intellect and wisdom, together with the experience of baptism in the Holy Spirit. „Zopakujem to, čo som už povedal počas prvej cesty a zopakujem tiež to, čo hovorí Katechizmus Katolíckej cirkvi: aby sa nediskriminovali, že musia byť rešpektovaní, že ich treba pastoračne sprevádzať.
Môžu sa odsúdiť, nie pre ideologické motívy, ale pre motívy, povedzme, politického správania, isté prejavy trochu príliš urážlivé pre druhých. Tieto veci však nemajú nič spoločné s problémom: ak je problém človek, ktorý je v takom stave, ktorý má dobrú vôľu a hľadá Boha, kto sme my, aby sme ho súdili?
Musíme ľudí dobre sprevádzať, podľa toho, čo hovorí Katechizmus. Potom tu sú tradície v niektorých krajinách, v niektorých kultúrach, ktoré inak zmýšľajú o tomto probléme.
Ja si myslím, že Cirkev by nemala prosiť o odpustenie len tohto človeka, ktorý je homosexuál, ktorého zranila, ale má prosiť o odpustenie aj chudobných, ženy a deti využívané ako pracovná sila; má prosiť o odpustenie, že dala požehnanie toľkým zbraniam.
Cirkev má prosiť o odpustenie, že sa toľkokrát nezachovala – a keď hovorím «Cirkev», rozumiem pod tým kresťanov; Cirkev je svätá, hriešni sme my! Kresťania majú žiadať o odpustenie za mnohé rozhodnutia, rodiny. Ako dieťa si spomínam na kultúru v Buenos Aires, zatvorenú katolícku kultúru: odtiaľ pochádzam.
Do rozvedenej rodiny nebolo možné vstúpiť: hovorím o období pred 80 rokmi. Kultúra sa našťastie zmenila, ako kresťania musíme prosiť o mnohé odpustenia...“
